G+D Convego Card Designer Leverages Cutting-Edge AI to Enable Personalized, Compliant Card Designs

Munich, 28 May 2025 – A picture is worth a thousand words – and on a payment card, it becomes a true lifestyle statement, turning every transaction into a more personal experience. The newly introduced generative and analytical AI capabilities of Convego Card Designer from Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) enable consumers to generate their own card design, while adhering to banks’ regulatory requirements.

While banks and financial institutions have already used AI for fraud detection, they can now also harness its creative potential – offering customers the opportunity to transform their payment cards, the primary physical link between financial institutions and consumers, into a personal accessory.

With Convego Card Designer, G+D now pairs image generation with compliance functionalities, to meet the industry’s high standards. Integrated into the banking app, it allows users to generate custom images using simple prompts to design new payment cards, while automatically ensuring regulatory compliance by filtering out prohibited content such as hate speech, self-harm, and violence.

Powered by a pre-trained, fine-tuned AI model that validates and analyzes user prompts, and understands both context and sentiment, it also includes intelligent screening alongside bank-specific regulations. The combination of these two card design features is unique in the market, and facilitates the broader use of Gen AI in highly regulated industries such as finance and banking.

A Safe Route to Generative AI

This is how the smart contextual analysis and screening process works: When designing their own card image, the user’s input into the Convego Card Designer is scored in real time by an analytical AI based on pre-defined compliance policies. Depending on the scores, the smart content-screening routes the user’s prompt through an adaptive mechanism. The prompts are either immediately approved in real time (Direct Pass), flagged for review (Conditional Pass) or rejected in real time. In case of rejection, the new AI capabilities offer alternative suggestions for designing a new, compliant image.

Once the prompt is accepted, the generated image will be screened by another AI engine, for compliance validation, which also features a copyright detection to block unauthorized content. With Convego Card Designer, banks can offer secure, AI powered personalization services to their customers.

“For many consumers, payment cards represent more than just a secure transaction method – they are an extension of personal identity and lifestyle. Through our advanced AI capabilities, we empower banks to deliver truly distinctive and personalized card experiences to their customers.“ explains Eric Megret-Dorne, Head of Card Issuance Services at G+D.

“In Asia, individualized payment card design is very popular both with banks and consumers. We have seen this trend in the market for some time and are actively shaping it,“ said Christopher v. Mitschke-Collande, Director, Digital Solutions APAC, G+D, located in Singapore. “Now, with enhanced, secure functionalities, I am confident this trend will be adopted in other regions too.”

G+D launches this solution at Money 2020 Europe (June 3-5 2025, in Amsterdam), and features a demonstration at the G+D lounge on-site.
