„Die heutigen Softwareprodukte stellen aufgrund schneller Innovationen in den Bereichen Cloud, Social Media, Mobile und Big Data anspruchsvolle Anforderungen an die Entwickler“, schreiben die Gartner-Analysten. „Die Kernapplikationen nutzen weiterhin bekannte Funktionen, wie Service-Orientierung, Trennung von Front- und Back-End sowie eine lose Kopplung. Darüber hinaus wollen Entwickler aber auch Cloud-Funktionen verwenden. Aus Sicht der Unternehmen sollten Applikationen gut skalierbar sein sowie die Vorteile moderner virtualisierter Infrastrukturen und, wenn möglich, auch IaaS-Funktionen nutzen. Sie müssen sich in diesem Zusammenhang einfach und weitgehend automatisiert verwalten lassen. Mit In-Memory-Datenverarbeitung kombiniert mit einem hohen Grad an Parallelität, wie sie heutige Infrastrukturen ermöglichen, lassen sich hochkomplexe analytische und umfangreiche Transaktionen verarbeitende Applikationen erstellen.“
