Das Upstream-Ansible-Projekt ist eines der populärsten Open-Source-Automatisierungsprojekte auf GitHub – mit einer aktiven und engagierten Community. Die modulare Codebasis bietet genügend Kapazität, um eine aktuelle Infrastruktur zu verwalten und sie lässt sich darüber hinaus problemlos an neue IT-Anforderungen und DevOps-Workflows anpassen. Mit Ansible können Entwickler und IT-Betriebsteams den gesamten Applikations-Lebenszyklus schneller automatisieren – angefangen von physischen und virtuellen Servern über Cloud-Computing-Umgebungen bis hin zu Linux-Containern.

Ansible 2.3 konzentriert sich weiterhin auf die Vereinfachung der Netzwerkinfrastruktur und bietet dazu sowohl neue Features als auch Performanceverbesserungen:

• Erweiterte Netzwerkfunktionalitäten wie ein Persistent Connections Framework: Mit Persistent Connections kann eine SSH-Verbindung über mehrere Ansible-Tasks hinweg aktiv bleiben. In Tests, die von Red Hat und verschiedenen Partnern durchgeführt wurden, ergab sich im gesamten Verlauf für den Abschluss und die Bereitstellung der Ergebnisse einer Task eine bis zu zehn Mal höhere Netzwerkperformance. Für Playbooks, die von den Persistent Connections von Ansible 2.3 profitieren wollen, stehen zwei Connection-Methoden bereit: erstens die bereits vorhandene Command-Line-Interface (CLI)-Connection-Methode und zweitens die neu hinzugekommene Connection-Methode NETCONF.
   
• Unterstützung neuer Netzwerkplattformen und -module: Ansible 2.3 unterstützt jetzt Netzwerkplattformen und -module von Apstra, Arista Networks, Avi Networks, Big Switch Networks, Cumulus Networks, Fortinet, Huawei, Lenovo, Ordnance und Palo Alto Networks. Die Zahl der unterstützten Plattformen ist auf 29 und die der Netzwerkmodule auf 267 angestiegen.
   
• Umfangreiche Unterstützung von Microsoft Windows: Neue und erweiterte Module vereinfachen die Automation von Windows mit Ansible. Mit Pipelining kann Ansible 2.3 die Performance weiter steigern.
   
• Vereinfachte Integration von Community-Beiträgen: In Form eines Metadaten-basierten Systems für Module gibt es jetzt ein zentrales Repository für Beiträge, Tickets, Stellungnahmen und anderes. Damit ist es sowohl für die Community als auch für das Ansible-Core-Team deutlich einfacher, das Community-Engagement zu managen und weiter zu fördern.

Ansible 2.3 ist ab sofort in einem stabilen Branch via GitHub verfügbar.
