Red Hat, der weltweit führende Anbieter von Open-Source-Lösungen, stellt ab sofort die Version 3 von Red Hat Storage Server zur Verfügung. Die marktführende offene Software-defined-Storage-Lösung für Scale-Out-Speichersysteme ist mit ihren neuen Leistungsmerkmalen optimal geeignet für datenintensive Workloads in Bereichen wie Big Data, Analytik, File-Sharing oder Kollaboration. Auf Basis bewährter und validierter Workload-Lösungen ermöglicht Red Hat Storage Server 3 Unternehmen im Storage-Bereich eine schnellere Reaktionsfähigkeit, bessere Kostenkontrolle sowie optimierte betriebliche Effizienz.

Red Hat stellt agile Storage-Lösungen unter Nutzung Community-getriebener Innovationen bereit. Unternehmen können damit flexibler und schneller auf neue Marktanforderungen oder notwendige Änderungen in der sich dynamisch entwickelnden IT-Landschaft reagieren. Auf Basis des Open-Source-Filesystems GlusterFS 3.6 und von Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 ist Red Hat Storage Server 3 für eine einfache Skalierbarkeit bis in den Petabyte-Bereich ausgelegt. Die Lösung bietet zudem eine granulare Überwachung der Storage-Umgebung und ermöglicht eine Senkung der Storage-Gesamtkosten.

Zentrale Leistungsmerkmale von Red Hat Storage Server 3 im Überblick:

• Steigerung der Skalierbarkeit und Kapazität um mehr als das Dreifache mit Unterstützung von bis zu 60 Laufwerken pro Server (bisher 36) und 128 Servern pro Cluster (bisher 64). Damit liegt die nutzbare Speicherkapazität bei bis zu 19 Petabytes pro Cluster.
   
• Verbesserung der Datensicherheit und Überwachungsmöglichkeit von Storage-Clustern mit der Erstellung von Volume Snapshots kritischer Daten und einer umfassenden Storage-Cluster-Überwachung mit offenen Standard-Frameworks wie Nagios oder SNMP.

• Einfache Integration in Big-Data-Analyse-Umgebungen mit Unterstützung eines Hadoop File System Plug-in, das die Ablauffähigkeit von Apache Hadoop Workloads auf dem Storage-Server ermöglicht, sowie enge Verzahnung mit Apache Ambari für die Verwaltung und Überwachung von Hadoop-Umgebungen.

• Hohe Hardware-Flexibilität, einschließlich einer SSD-Unterstützung für Workloads mit geringer Latenz und einer deutlich erweiterten Hardware Compatibility List (HCL).

• Schnelle Bereitstellung mit einer RPM-basierten Distributionsoption, die Nutzern von Red Hat Enterprise Linux maximale Flexibilität bietet. Red Hat Storage Server kann so einfach und schnell auf mit Red Hat Enterprise Linux vorinstallierten Servern eingesetzt werden.

Red Hat Storage Server 3 wird von einem umfangreichen Ökosystem führender Technologiepartner von Red Hat unterstützt, einschließlich Cisco und HP, und von Integrationspartnern wie International Integrated Solutions Ltd. und Function1. Zudem hat Red Hat mit führenden Software-Anbietern wie Splunk, Hortonworks oder ownCloud zusammengearbeitet, um Lösungsarchitekturen für Log- und Sicherheitsanalysen, Apache Hadoop, File-Sharing und Kollaboration bereitstellen zu können. Im Mai 2014 hatte Red Hat Inktank erworben, den Hersteller der Open-Source-Storage-Lösungen Ceph und Inktank Ceph Enterprise. Red Hats Inktank Ceph Enterprise bietet Unternehmen, die eine Public oder Private Cloud nutzen, eine leistungsstarke Object- und Block-basierte Storage-Software, die auch in OpenStack-Clouds zum Einsatz kommt. Gemeinsam mit Red Hats weiterem Storage-Produktportfolio können Unternehmen damit ein umfangreiches Angebot an offenen Software-defined-Storage-Lösungen in den Bereichen Object-, Block- und Dateisystem-Speicher nutzen.
