Red Hat, der weltweit führende Anbieter von Open-Source-Lösungen, legt den Quellcode des Ansible Galaxy Repository offen. Ansible Galaxy ist der offizielle Community Hub für die gemeinsame Nutzung von sofort einsatzfähigen IT-Funktionen, sogenannten Ansible Roles. Red Hat verdeutlicht damit sein Engagement zur Unterstützung der Community-getriebenen Innovation und der Förderung leistungsstarker Open-Source-IT-Automationstechnologie.

Das Ansible-Upstream-Projekt ist eines der bekanntesten Open-Source-Automationsprojekte auf GitHub, das von einer mehr als 2.200 Entwickler umfassenden, aktiven und sehr engagierten Community getragen wird. Darüber hinaus steigt die Zahl der Fortune-100-Unternehmen, die Ansible zur IT-Automation in umfangreichen und komplexen Private-Cloud-Umgebungen einsetzen.

Ansible Roles sind auf konventionelle Art strukturierte Content Directories, die eine einfache Wiederverwendung, Refaktorierung und gemeinsame Nutzung von Prozessen ermöglichen. Dadurch werden die Roles zwischen Teams, innerhalb von Unternehmen und Umgebungen hochportabel. Die Ansible Roles fungieren dabei als "gemeinsame Sprache" für die Funktionalität von Ansible; sie können Variablen, Handlers, Files, Templates, Tasks und Module enthalten.

Da Ansible Roles in Unternehmen weit verbreitet sind, hat sich Ansible Galaxy als beste Möglichkeit herauskristallisiert, um die Roles zu organisieren, aufzufinden und sie gemeinsam zu nutzen. Mit dem Open-Source-Projekt Ansible Galaxy können Unternehmen einen privaten Galaxy-Server einrichten und den nativen Ansible Client zur Weiterleitung zu ihrem privaten Galaxy Repository nutzen. Ferner können Anwender und Unternehmen jetzt neue Features und Erweiterungen direkt in die Galaxy Codebase einbringen.
