Als erstes Zertifikat bietet Red Hat „JBoss Certified Developer in Persistence“ (JBCD-Persistence) an. Zertifikatsinhaber weisen damit praktische Erfahrungen beim Einsatz der Java Persistence API (JPA) mit Hibernate nach, einem Open-Source- und Objekt-Relationalen-Java-Framework.

JBCD ist das einzige leistungsbezogene Zertifizierungsprogramm für Java-Entwickler. Im Rahmen der Prüfungen müssen die Kandidaten in einer vorgegebenen Zeit Programmcode erstellen und neuen Vorgaben entsprechend ändern.
