Die Technologie wird auch künftig das Upstream-Projekt für die Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform bilden. WildFly adressiert zentrale Middleware-Themen, beispielsweise die Nutzung von flexiblen und modernen Verfahren in der Softwareentwicklung, den Einsatz in offenen hybriden Cloud-Umgebungen und von Java Enterprise Edition 7 (Java EE 7).

„WildFly basiert auf der zehnjährigen Erfahrung von Red Hat JBoss Middleware und setzt neue Maßstäbe in der Softwareentwicklung“, sagt Mark Little, Ph.D., Vice President Middleware Engineering bei Red Hat. „Gleichzeitig eröffnen sich damit zusätzliche Möglichkeiten für die Community, sich noch stärker mit eigenen Ideen und Vorschlägen zu engagieren.“

In einem ersten Projektschritt wird sich WildFly 8 auf eine schnelle Zertifizierung für Java EE 7 konzentrieren, damit sich WildFly-Anwendungen standardkonform, schnell und einfach in Cloud- und Mobile-Szenarien einsetzen lassen. Red Hat hat die Praxistauglichkeit bereits in einigen Projekten, wie JBoss Application Server 7 und Infinispan, die auf einem Raspberry Pi, auf Plug-Computern oder Smartphones laufen, unter Beweis gestellt.

Zu den Spezifikationen von Java EE 7 gehören etwa WebSockets und Verbesserungen bei der Contexts and Dependency Injection (CDI). Darüber hinaus wird WildFly künftig die zentralen Vorhaben der JBoss Community unterstützen: Ausbau der Funktionen im Bereich Polyglot Programming, Aufbau einer Entwicklergemeinde und Funktionen für den Einsatz in offenen hybriden Cloud-Umgebungen.

Die erste Alpha-Version von WildFly wird ab Mai 2013 zum kostenlosen Download bereitstehen.
