Electronic passport with security features from Veridos wins “Regional ID Document of the Year Award”

Berlin, 28 March 2024 – Latvia’s new electronic passport has won the “Regional ID Document of the Year Award” at the High Security Printing (HSP) EMEA 2024 industry conference. The award-winning passport is equipped with innovative security features from Veridos and contains a color photo as primary image of the passport holder.

Each year, the HSP Conference honors programs for personal identification and travel documents with the “Regional ID Document of the Year Award“. These programs demonstrate outstanding achievements and technical sophistication. With this award, the HSP industry recognizes the best system infrastructures and the best implementations of a government passport, ID and other secure identification systems.

Latvia’s new electronic passport received the coveted “Best New Passport” award at the HSP-EMEA conference held in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, in March. The next-generation ePassport is produced by Veridos, the world’s leading provider of secure identity solutions, in consortium with the Portuguese state printer INCM, and is equipped with Veridos’ innovative security features CLIP ID Echo, Amber ID, Diamond ID and Spectre ID.

CLIP ID Echo is an evolution of CLIP ID, a technology for color personalization on polycarbonate data pages, and enables a vivid color photo as primary image of the passport holder on the new Latvian ePassports. The passport features repeating personalized data such as the name and date of birth in the background, which are only visible from certain angles. Amber ID, Diamond ID and Spectre ID combine transparent window and stripe elements with unique materials, personalized data and special effects. These four features bring a new level of security to ePassports, ensuring secure and convenient travel for their holders. By using Veridos’ visible and advanced UV printing capabilities, the passports also have a very complex and unique design with individual motifs on every visa page reflecting Latvia’s rich nature.

“We are very happy for our partners at the Latvian authorities and congratulate them on this award,” said Marc-Julian Siewert, CEO of Veridos. “Latvia’s new ePassport is a masterpiece of a passport, as it seamlessly combines aesthetics with state-of-the-art security and redefines the possibilities of document authentication”.
