Cloud-Computing-Projektteam der EU unter Leitung von Red Hat präsentiert Prototyp einer neuen Middleware-Plattform

Das Cloud-TM-Projekt wurde von der Europäischen Kommission vor über drei Jahren gestartet. Ziel war, Entwicklungsmodelle sowohl für Standard-Cloud- als auch umfangreiche und komplexe Grid-Anwendungen zu konzipieren.

Hinter dem Cloud-TM-Projekt stand die Überzeugung, dass kommerzielle Cloud-Computing-Plattformen ein hohes Potenzial bieten. Dem zentralen Vorteil einer hohen Skalierbarkeit stand ein gravierender Nachteil gegenüber: das Fehlen von Programmierstandards und Protokollen. Dadurch wurden die Möglichkeiten von Entwicklern eingeschränkt, das volle Potenzial des verteilten Programmierens und von Large-Scale-Cloud-Plattformen auszuschöpfen.

Um diese Einschränkung zu überwinden, haben Entwickler von Red Hat und Wissenschaftler gemeinsam den Aufbau einer datenzentrierten Middleware-Plattform in Angriff genommen. Sie wurde von Grund auf neu konzipiert, um die Anforderungen von Cloud-Infrastrukturen hinsichtlich Skalierbarkeit und Flexibilität zu erfüllen.

„Gemeinsam haben wir im Cloud-TM-Projektteam eine hochinnovative datenzentrierte Middleware-Plattform konzipiert, die nicht nur neue Programmiermöglichkeiten bietet, sondern auch die Kosten bei der Entwicklung, Einrichtung und Verwaltung von Cloud-Applikationen senkt“, sagt Paolo Romano, Cloud-TM-Projektkoordinator. „Das wurde möglich durch die enge Integration von hochskalierbaren Datenmanagement-Protokollen und intuitiven Programmiermodellen für komplexe Large-Scale-Cloud-Plattformen.“
