Reach Requires Credibility – More Than Ever in the Age of AI
by Martina Jahrbacher (Managing Director) and Markus Schmid (Editor)
Reach is one of the primary goals of corporate communications. And for good reason: only what gets seen can make an impact. Whether through media relations, content marketing, or social media, messages cannot reach their target audiences without visibility.
But reach alone is not enough. A company may be featured in leading media outlets, have a strong presence on LinkedIn, or attract high website traffic. Without credible communication, however, that visibility is unlikely to create lasting impact.
What Makes Content Authentic
Credible content demonstrates expertise by backing up claims with facts, experience, or real-world examples. Organizations do not appear authentic simply by claiming to be experts—they earn credibility by proving it. Effective content provides context, explains complex issues, offers fresh perspectives, and answers audience questions in a well-founded and transparent way. In short, it delivers genuine value and meaningful insights.
Communication becomes even more credible when there are real people behind the message. Executives and subject matter experts who share their knowledge and experience make a company’s expertise more tangible and trustworthy. They strengthen the organization’s reputation, position it as a reliable source of insight, and ensure that content is not only noticed but also remembered and shared.
Credibility Amplifies Reach
Authenticity does more than increase the impact of communication—it also reinforces reach itself.
Journalists naturally seek out credible, well-supported information. Content that provides real substance stands a far better chance of being published than promotional material or generic corporate messaging, enabling it to reach a much broader audience.
The same principle applies to social media. Content that offers genuine value typically generates more engagement, leading platform algorithms to distribute it more widely. As a result, credibility directly contributes to greater reach.
AI Prefers Credible Content
This has always been true. But in the era of generative AI, it has become even more important. AI systems also tend to rely on content they assess as authoritative, well-founded, and trustworthy.
To make that assessment, they evaluate factors such as factual consistency, depth of expertise, and connections to reputable sources. Content that meets these criteria is significantly more likely to be reflected in responses generated by ChatGPT and other AI assistants.
Visibility Starts with Credibility
Reach requires credibility—in two important ways. Credibility transforms visibility into meaningful impact while also increasing reach itself.
This principle applies across traditional media, social platforms, and, increasingly, generative AI. As AI-powered search and content discovery continue to evolve, authenticity is becoming one of the most important drivers of successful corporate communications.
