Fedora-Stipendium fördert Innovation bei Open Source
„Das Stipendium belohnt innovative Schüler. Wir wollen damit Jugendliche animieren, Software nach dem Open-Source-Prinzip zu entwickeln und diese in das Fedora-Projekt und andere Open-Source-Projekte einzubringen“, sagt Jared Smith, Fedora-Projektleiter bei Red Hat. „Die bisherigen Stipendiaten sind weiterhin sehr aktiv in der Community tätig und arbeiten zielstrebig an ihren Studienabschlüssen. Open Source ist die optimale Art, neue Technologie zu entwickeln. Die beste Idee gewinnt. Wir freuen uns schon auf die Beiträge der nächsten Schüler- und Studentengeneration.“
Das Fedora-Stipendium belegt das klare Bekenntnis von Red Hat und dem Fedora-Projekt, junge Talente auf dem Gebiet der Open-Source-Software zu fördern. Wichtige Auswahlkriterien für das Stipendium sind die Qualität der Beiträge zu Fedora und anderen Open-Source-Projekten, die Dauer, seit der der Bewerber schon zu Fedora beiträgt, sowie die Aufmachung der Bewerbungsunterlagen. Das Stipendium beläuft sich auf 2.000 US-Dollar pro Jahr über eine Laufzeit von vier Jahren, die sich an der Hochschulzeit eines amerikanischen College-Studenten orientiert. Dazu kommen Fahrtkosten, um in den vier Stipendiatsjahren die jeweils nächstgelegene Fedora User and Developer Conference (FUDCon) besuchen zu können.
